I can now confirm that I will be leaving my position as the security director with NBA China on Friday April 5th, 2013. Having held this position for nearly five and a half years, it is the longest I have occupied the same role in my entire working life.
I will miss the fun and excitement of the NBA, but I'm looking forward to spending more time at home in Sydney. I have yet to finalise any plans for my on-going employment, although I do have a number of "irons in the fire" - the details of which will be revealed in the fullness of time.
In the meantime, I have two and a half months of living in Beijing to get through, including the Chinese New Year break 9-15Feb. You may recall that this time last year, I travelled to Capestrano for a holiday in the snow with Oliver and his mate, Sam. But this year, I'll head to Sydney for a few days, before returning to Beijing for my "valedictory". Frances may even try to squeeze in one last shopping trip to Beijing during March as we usher in the Chinese Year of the Snake.
We had a wonderful time in Sydney with all the family together celebrating the Christmas and New Year festivities. The weather was hot, and the Sydney beaches were delightful
Emma's Supported Living Fund program is proceeding nicely, with Emma spending regular sessions each week with her Lifestyle Skills coach (another Frances) and her Homemaking Skills coach (Belinda); she also attends the gym several times a week for sessions with her Personal Trainer (Roger)
Rhiannon is returning to live at home in Dural to consolidate her finances, and to help with Emma's transition to a more independent lifestyle
Oliver is enrolled with Macquarie University to do a Bachelor of Information Technology degree
Treasure Trove of Memories:
One of the tasks I need to complete before leaving Beijing is to choose a collection of photographs to be printed and framed (it's way cheaper to do so here in China) that reflect the many places we've lived and travelled to over the past 33 years. The intention is to create a display wall at Casa dei Viaggiatori - which, after all, means "The House of Travellers". We will keep adding to the display as we experience new adventures. The photos in the album below are the beginning of that collection, and show some of the amazing places we been lucky enough to visit.
How to view the photos:
Double click the large photo to view all the photos as a slide show
Click the pause icon to stop the slide show to view a particular photo
Click the pause icon again to resume the slide show or click on the right double arrow to advance each photo individually
